  1. People's sick. How can they make that hair for BOTH genders? Don't they realize it doesn't look right for men? Or do they really like men like that? I really don't understand. wtf.

  2. "How can they make that hair for BOTH genders?"

Because a hair |style| is not a genetic trait?

Also here is a thought ... DONT DOWNLOAD THE MALE HAIR if you do not like it since its not even required to have it in order for the female hair to show up.

  3. Unless you're going for very feminine men, trannies, or crossdressers, then I have to agree that it doesn't look all that flattering on men. The hairstyle in itself isn't all that bad though.

  4. I like it, I just hope the texture isn't as bad as it sometimes is with their free hair.

THIS. It's not about "don't download if you don't like!", it's an opinion, you know? I see a trend of making men look more and more like women and i just don't understand it, i don't get the appeal.

The hair is good for a female sim, though, it's cute.

  6. I'll try to break this down for you all without getting snarky like I usually do.

    1. The creators of most of the hairs people use nowadays (Newsea, Peggy, Rose), etc. etc. are based in Asia. Androgynous men are more popular in that region and appear more in media (animation, comics, and music (especially in Japan with visual kei & oshare kei). And yes, those are all men. There's also the whole "yaoi/BL/shonen-ai" movement that usually deals with very feminine men.

Since this is the case, the creators are going to create hairs that appeal to those who enjoy feminine men. I'm not saying everyone from that region loves the idea of androgyny (because it's untrue), but I am saying that it's more accepted by some of the younger (more likely to be a fan of The Sims series) set over there.

As for me, I have both androgynous and non-androgynous male sims. It's fun to mix it up a bit, imo.

This hair could work on males from the front as a more "romantic" style, but the back kills it.

  8. Did not Man converted this one too?

  9. she/he has some nice stuff there!

  10. Oh, ok, we did not even get hold of this one (sims2 version). Too bad.

  11. lol ugh. What ever happened to good old fashioned androgyny? I mean, looking like David Bowie is one thing but looking like a full-blown tranny is another story!

  12. I'm well aware of visual kei, anime, manga, androginous men from japan, you name it. Since i like japan and "some things" from their culture a lot. I'm just saying it looks ridiculous in a man. And i haven't seen many japanese men wearing that kind of hair style if you ask me. It's more on the anime and manga side, and that doesn't mean it won't keep looking ridiculous for sane people.

  13. coming from southeast asia, i agree with nicole's analysis. relax, its not some global conspiracy to 'feminize' men. its a culture thing.

    ReplyDelete
  14. i don't have the numbers...but i think it reasonable to infer that if everyone thinks it is ridiculous, then no one would download the male hair, which would tell the creator not to bother with the time and effort making it. but clearly thats not the case. even if its just one person who likes it, perhaps if only the maker itself, its a bit arrogant, to me, to say that that person has 'ridiculous' taste or is not 'sane' simply for not agreeing with you. taste is subjective.

  15. I'd rather creators provide them for both genders with the option to only download for one than to just make them available for women and leave the crossdressing/tranny/girly guys high and dry. Because I may not have a ton of those sort of men in my game, but every now and then I may want one--so I'm glad the option is there.

Which is just another opinion. We've all got one. But I guess I still stick with the "Don't like it? Don't download it!" camp.

  16. lol all this drama makes me wish i knew how to make sims hair, id make some sexy male hair, i know how to make my men manly ;-)

i really didnt know about the androgeny...however its spelled...i really dont know who would be into feminine men, if i did i would be into women! give me a scruffy hair ball that stinks from time to time any day!

  17. The worst thing is that NewSea does not make a male version separated from the female. You download about 4 files, and will have it available for both genders. And you dont know if they disabled or not the thing which allows NPCs use the hair. If they enabled it, you will have a bunch of male (male? really?) sims using it walking all over the city.

    ReplyDelete
  18. this kind of hair will never look right until male sims 3 sim can get looking like their heavily modded sims 2 counter parts

    ReplyDelete
  19. I dont like this hair on my girl either. She looks weird... Can we please have some NORMAL HAIR for both genders?

  20. Very nice, thanks

  21. Why the hell is there so much transphobia in the comments here?

    ReplyDelete
  22. 12 year olds, get back to school or go do your homework or something. It's not 'sick' for a man to have long hair.

    ReplyDelete
  23. It's because people are close-minded. I can understand if people don't want hair like this for male sims, but are the transphobic & homophobic comments really necessary? I've been reading the comments section of this blog for a while now and all I hear is "omg only fags/trannies would wear this!". I don't know about you all, but I really don't see a lot of gay men with long flowing hair.

    ---

I didn't know people who enjoyed androgyny were "insane", by the way. If that were true, the asylums would be overflowing with people since there are millions out there who do like it.

  24. does anyone else get a message about the compressed folder being invalid or corrupted? There are quite a few hairs I love at Newsea's blog but always get this message! GRRRRRRRRR.

Can someone PLEASE convert this one, hair #15, and #12 so I can get them?!

    ReplyDelete
  25. For me it's not so much the whole "only fags/trannies would wear this!" deal, as much as it is a "does it make an average male sim look handsome without too much physical appearance tweaking" deal. Trust me... I would definitely be the first in line to get some sexy-looking long and/or stylized hair for my male sims, such as oepu's shorter bob for males or several Peggy hairs that are available (that wavy ponytail one's pretty cute if you ask me <3).

I mean... perhaps I AM the only one thinking such, but you really can't do much with THIS particular hairstyle when it comes to men. Don't get me wrong... it's lovely, but it just seems limited to certain types of men, such as bishonen. Just as you said previously Nicole, it looks nice as a romantic style (and I agree wholeheartedly), but I doubt you can imagine a bodybuilder kind of man sporting such a look. ;P

@Anon: Did you make sure the files downloaded properly? I usually have this problem pop up when the download ends before it reaches 100%.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Haha, I really couldn't imagine it on a bodybuilder. I agree in saying I do wish there were more "manly" hairstyles in the TS3 universe as well, but I don't mind the bit of variety provided with the more "feminine" hairs either. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's not because of long hair, it's the style, it just isn't too suitable for a manly man.

No transphobia or anything, that's just what i think.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't think the issue in general is that everyone here hates androgyny and has some innate fear of feminine males or stupid crap like that... I think the issue people are starting to have is that creators are ONLY catering to people who want androgynous males, and yeah, it's getting to be too much. Obviously it's easier for the creator because you can knock out a male and female hair in one fell swoop, but I don't think it would kill anyone to acknowledge that a pretty significant part of the fanbase is looking for masculine hairstyles.

It's getting kind of frustrating, and that's why people are getting up in arms about it-- not because they hate trannies or anything. Relax.

    ReplyDelete
  29. (And now that I think about it, what if I wanted a masculine female? This long flowing Cinderalla stuff would certainly not help...)

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's actually a mix of people who are truly homophobic and people who just want more manly hairstyles. (I'm willing to admit that the people who just want "manlier" hair are the majority.)

I hardly think anyone could look at a comment like "what the hell they need tostop making that long faggot hair for guys." and not think there's something wrong with it. It's also quite ignorant to think only gay men have long or so-called "feminine" hair. The latter seems to be a common thought among commenters.

As for your last comment, making so-called "manly" hair for women would also spawn a lot of ignorance from people as well. All of the talk about gay men would turn into talk about "lesbos" and "bulldykes".

I hate to get all soapbox-y on everyone over pixels, but I'm very passionate about gender issues.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I like you, Nicole.

It seems like every other comment on this site is homophobic or transphobic, and it really makes it hard for me to want to come here. Us LGBT people get enough shit in real life, why can't we just download stuff for our Sims in peace? :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. Totally agree, Nicole. :)

I despise close-minded people. You know what? I like the fact that creators are enabling this for both genders.

Let's say you wanted to create a celebrity sim and you found the PERFECT hair for him/her but it only works for ONE gender. I would be annoyed, I don't know about you. :P

I'm perfectly fine with the fact that creators are allowing their hairs for both genders. What I'm not too happy with are the lack of manlier HAIRSTYLES. There's a difference.

And what if someone wanted to recreate an anime character as a Sim? Having more variety in hairstyles can help a great deal. And it's not just people making anime/manga style sims, it also gives EVERYONE'S game more variety, which I think is a good thing.

Most creators give you the option to download it for female/male seperately anyway, so I don't know why some people are making such a fuss about it.

If you don't want it, don't download it. It's pretty simple.
    Now stop complaining. :D

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah like I'd give some homophobic fat load behind a computer the satisfaction of upsetting me. It's a waste of my time and energy.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I suppose you're right that it's a waste of time, but it's hard not to get upset.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why do you bring on homophobic and such issues to the topic? We aren't complaining, for the most part, because we have issues with feminine men or whatever. But because we are tired of seeing just feminine men. We also would like some masculine men on our games you know?

It's not a matter of hating homosexuals or thinking they must be homosexuals because of their hair, it's not because of long hair on men, i love long MANLY hair on men. It's because throwing a female hair style and making it for both genders is a lame excuse to have man hair. Instead of really creating some man hair.

If you still keep believing it's because most of us are close minded, then go ahead. But that's not the cause in most cases. I hate it when people throw in sexual issues when it's really not the topic.

  36. Personally I think the comment section should not be used for personal political & social shenanigans. The comment about "it looks gay" means "it looks crap" on that particular sex. Nothing more, nothing less. Please don't turn this site into a political "bashing" vehicle for your personal lifestyle preferences or dislikes - there are a million other forums for that!! Stick to the topic at hand thanks....
